HKU to host Public Forum on Urban Development in China's 11th Five-Year Programme

Jointly organized by the International Centre for China Development Studies, the Department of Geography, the Strategic Research Area on China Studies of the University of Hong Kong, and Chinese Geographic Society, PRC, a Public Forum on Urban Development in China's 11th Five-Year Programme will be held on December 20, 2005 (from 9:15am to 5:30pm) and December 21, 2005 (from 8:30am to 12:35pm) at Senate Room, 10/F Knowles Building, the University of Hong Kong. Members of the press are cordially invited to attend the forum.
The public forum aims to explore the challenges and opportunities arising from China's 11th Five-year Programme with particular reference to urban and regional development. Leading academics and distinguished research scientists from the mainland, Hong Kong and overseas will deliver keynote presentations at the Forum. The topics include: regional development in the 21st Century, urban agglomerations, regional development in the Pearl River Delta and the Yangtze Delta. HKU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Paul Tam and the Dean of Faculty of Arts Prof. Kam Louie will officiate the Opening Ceremony at 9:15am on Tuesday, 20 December 2005.
