This is a major event held annually in Canada since 1996, Hong Kong is the only site outside of Canada for selecting semi-finalists. 2 winners from the Hong Kong contest will take part in the Competition held in May this year at the University of Waterloo, Canada. It is the second year the Competition is held in Hong Kong and is open to students in Form 4 – 7 or Grade 10 – 13.
Response received is overwhelming, with over 90 students from 18 secondary schools in Hong Kong already registered to take part in the Competition. During the 3-hour contest, participants are required to answer 5 questions, each having a problem to be solved programmatically.
The top 2 finishers will be awarded with "all-expenses paid trip" to the University of Waterloo to compete with 20 other top scorers from Canada. The week-long Competition in Canada includes seminars, a contest as well as extra-curricular activities. All participants who attended the Hong Kong contest will receive a Certificate of Participation, and those who score 60 out of 75 will be awarded a Certificate of Merit.
Started in 1996, the Competition provides a forum for high school students in Canada to learn about and enjoy aspects of computer programming. Participants now number more than 2,500 from 250 schools across the country.

The University of Hong Kong's Department of Computing Science & the University of Waterloo will jointly organize this year's Canadian Computing Competition ("Competiton") which will be held on March 1, 2006 (Wednesday) from 4:15pm to 7:30pm in Room 312, Haking Wong Building, HKU.
