Entitled 'Turbans, Trade and Terrorism: Are Human Rights the Answer?', Professor Hurst Hannum, the newly-appointed Sir Y K Pao Chair Professor in Public Law, will give his views on whether the modern human rights norms, which were developed over 50 years ago, are still relevant to the problems the world is facing today, like religious extremism and intolerance, impacts arising from the expanding free trade, and challenges of transnational terrorism.

He is the co-author of International Human Rights: Problems of Law, Policy, and Practice (4th ed. 2006); Autonomy, Sovereignty, and Self-Determination: The Accommodation of Conflicting Rights (rev. ed. 1996); and numerous articles in professional journals. He is also editor of Negotiating Self-Determination (2006) and Guide to International Human Rights Practice (4th ed. 2004).
