HKU Centre of Urban Planning and Environmental Management to hold The 12th Annual International Sustainable Development Research Conference 2006

As part of the celebration for our 25th Anniversary, The Centre of Urban Planning and Environmental Management (CUPEM), The University of Hong Kong, in association with ERP Environment, publishers of the international journal Sustainable Development are pleased to announce the 12th Annual International Sustainable Development Research Conference 2006. This is the first time in twelve years that the conference is held in Asia, with Sustainable Development Unit of the HKSAR Government as the supporting organisation. Details of the Conference are as belows:

First Platform in Hong Kong for Discussion between Different Sectors - Government, Business and Civil Society
Sustainable development relies on the cooperation of all sectors in the community. Our opening session is the first occasion to set up a platform for discussion between the government (Mr. Roy Tang, Deputy Director of Environmental Protection, HKSAR Government and Ir. Otto Poon, B.B.S., Member, Council for Sustainable Development, HKSAR Government), business sector (Mrs. Betty Yuen, Managing Director, CLP Power Hong Kong Limited) and civil society (Mr. Albert Lai Chairman, Hong Kong Peoples' Council for Sustainable Development) in Hong Kong.
Combining Research and Practice
It is anticipated that over 300 papers from researchers and practitioners in the fields of sustainable development, sustainable cities, environmental policy and industrial ecology will be presented.
Launching of International Sustainable Development Research Society
The conference in Hong Kong will see the launch of this new Society which aims to build a network of researchers interested in sustainable development. Membership includes a monthly newsletter, access to the Society website with interactive bulletin board and a complementary copy of the international journal Sustainable Development.
