The Sino-Japanese relations have been a major concern in recent years. Entitled 'Japan and China: Working toward a mature relationship' Mr Takanori Kitamura, the Consul-General of Japan at Hong Kong will share his views on how these two important countries in East Asia work together for a more stable and mutually beneficial relationship, which serves as a prerequisite for the stability and prosperity of the region.
Mr Kitamura joined Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1972. He has served on several postings at the Japanese Embassy in Beijing, culminating in his appointments as Minister there from 1998 to 2000. He has also served at Japan's embassies in the Unites States, the Philippines and Greece, and at the United Nations. Back in Tokyo, Mr Kitamura served as Director of the Research and Programming Division, and Deputy Chief of Protocol. From 2000 to 2002, he was Managing Director of the Planning and Evaluation Department at the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and he was Senior Research Fellow at the Japan Institute of International Affairs between 2002 and 2004. Since March 2004, he has been Consul-General at the Consulate-General of Japan in Hong Kong.
The speech will be given at the Global Lounge, G/F, Fong Shu Chuen Amenities Centre, Main Campus, HKU, on Wednesday, April 12, at 4:30pm. The speech will be conducted in English.

The Centre of Asian Studies and the Department of Japanese Studies of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) proudly present a speech by the Consul-General of Japan at Hong Kong.
