How to Enjoy Your Stay at Japanese Traditional Inns
Okami are the female managers of ryokan, the traditional Japanese inns. Eight okami-san from eight celebrated inns across Japan will share their daily responsibilities and give advice on how to make the most of a visit to a ryokan, its facilities, like hot spring and tell us about their daily responsibilities at the Global Lounge, G/F, Fong Shu Chuen Amenities Centre, Main Campus of HKU on Friday, 12:45-1:45pm.
Japanese Traditional Culture Workshop
Okami-san not only manage their ryokan, but are often responsible for keeping many cultural traditions alive. They will demonstrate how to put on a kimono properly and share the secrets of making pressed flowers at the University Museum and Art Gallery, 1/F, T T Tsui Building, Main Campus of HKU on Friday, 4:00-5:30pm. (Note: This event will be conducted in Japanese)
The above two events are jointly organised by the Department of Japanese Studies and Office of International Student Exchange of HKU, and sponsored by the Japan Airlines.
Members of media are welcome to attend the above events. Additionally, an interview session with the okami-san will be taken place at the University Museum and Art Gallery, 1/F, T T Tsui Building, Main Campus of HKU on Friday, 3:00 – 3:30pm. Hot on the heels of the speech by the Japanese Consul-General and the enthusiastic response it generated last week, Japan Month continues at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) with the visit by a group of renowned okami-san on Friday (April 21).
