07 Jun 2006
The impact of English as a medium of instruction in universities is far reaching, especially in communities where English is not the first language for students. Issues such as government's language policy, practical issues involved in language teaching as well as challenges of language learning will be explored by over 80 representatives of higher education institutions in Hong Kong and Asia in a symposium entitled "Language Issues in English-medium Universities Across Asia". HKU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Lap-Chee Tsui will give an opening address at this symposium co-hosted by the Faculties of Arts and Education in collaboration with the English Centre of HKU.
This is an international symposium where experiences will be shared by representatives from universities in Singapore, Malaysia, Pakistan, The Philippines, Sri Lanka, Brunei, Australia, Japan, China, Macau and Hong Kong.
