In his talk, Dr Wong believes there is a very strong future for technology development in Hong Kong. Our future is clearly linked to driving technology to support the economic growth of Mainland China. He also points out that Hong Kong has distinct advantages over other Asian countries that we need to fully exploit to truly become a technological leader. He thinks that R&D is a critical component to support Hong Kong's technology development and R&D investments can enhance competitiveness, lead to industrial upgrading, and create better product designs that are required for future success.
He also urges that Hong Kong need to make significant progress within the next five years or we will lose this opportunity.
Dr. Wong holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Hong Kong, a Master of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Wisconsin and an honorary degree of Doctor of Technology from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Dr. Wong is the Chairman of the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute and an ex-officio member of the Steering Committee on Innovation and Technology. He is also a council member of the University of Hong Kong, an independent non-executive director of the Bank of East Asia Limited, China-Hongkong Photo Products Holdings Limited and Li & Fung Limited.
This Luncheon Talk Series is jointly presented by the HKU Foundation and the HKU's Faculty of Business and Economics which aims to bring about a dynamic interchange of ideas and insights of influential figures from a gamut of industries and disciplines in Hong Kong.

Dr Allan Wong (黃子欣博士), Chairman and Group Chief Executive Officer of VTech Holdings Ltd, spoke on "Hong Kong – Is There Any Future for Technology Development?" at the fifth HKU Luncheon Talk of "Against the Odds: Business Models for Hong Kong" Series today (June 27).
