The opening ceremony of SSI will be held at 11am tomorrow (July 27) at the Loke Yew Hall, Main Building, HKU. Officiating at the ceremony will be Mr Yip Chee-kuen, Chief Curator of the Hong Kong Science Museum, Professor John Malpas, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of HKU, and Professor Sun Kwok, Dean of HKU's Faculty of Science.
SSI has now come to its fifth year. Through plenary lectures, specialist demonstrations, hands-on science workshops, and scientific projects on a variety of integrated science topics, students can learn about everyday science in an interactive and creative way and are given an opportunity to interact with University teachers and students.
In addition to enhancing students' science knowledge, the programme also provides students with an early experience of university life through recreational activities and accommodation at HKU's residential hall.
This year, SSI features three lectures by distinguished scholars under the theme "Energy: Past, Present and Future".
