Hong Kong's MTR is recognised as one of the world's finest railways in terms of safety, service and cost efficiency. In a world of subsidised metro systems, it is a rare example of a railway that makes a profit without government financial assistance. The key to MTR's success is the rail-plus-property development model; a simple concept in which the railway system is integrated with residential and community developments. The result is high quality communities for residents who, in turn, are passengers for the railway. It is a unique model which provides Hong Kong with a world-class railroad network and service. In his talk, Sir C K will share MTR's experience in developing its unique business model and the challenges of exploring business opportunities beyond Hong Kong.
This Luncheon Talk Series is jointly presented by the HKU Foundation and HKU's Faculty of Business and Economics. It aims to bring about a dynamic interchange of ideas and insights of influential figures from a gamut of industries and disciplines in Hong Kong.
