The University of Hong Kong (HKU) held the Honorary University Fellowships presentation ceremony today (December 15), which was presided by Dr The Hon David K P Li, Pro-Chancellor of the University.
The University presented the Honorary University Fellowships to eight distinguished personalities, in recognition of their contributions to the University as well as the whole community. They are:. Dr Thomas CHEN, Mr CHUNG Kin Kwok, Dr FONG Yun Wah, The Hon Patrick LAU, Professor LEE Kin Hung, Dr James Tak WU, Dr Clyde WU and Mrs Helen ZIMMERN.
At the ceremony, Professor Lap-Chee Tsui said the fellowships, created in 1995, are important means for the University to express gratitude to those who have contributed themselves to the development of the university as well as the well-being of the society, and to foster even closer and wider ties with the community at large.
Professor Tsui praised the newly-awarded fellows as examples for others, particularly the younger generation, to follow: "In the true sense of the world, our Honorary Fellows today exemplify the meaning of citizenship. They have shown in thought and word and deed how deeply they appreciate the value of education, and how important the welfare of society is to them."
