Luncheon Talk by Chief Executive of HKEx
Mr Paul Chow Man-yiu, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd, will speak on "The Evolving Role of Hong Kong as an International Securities Market for the Mainland" on Monday, March 12, 2007. This is the first talk of the 2007 HKU Luncheon Talk Series "Views from the Top: Business Models for Hong Kong".
Over the past 20 years, the Hong Kong stock market has played a major role raising equity capital for investment in Mainland China. The initial public offer of ICBC in 2006 was, at the time, the world's biggest ever IPO. And in recent years, Hong Kong has added a range of derivatives and structured products to its Mainland offerings.
As the Mainland domestic markets grow, there is a need to consider a closer alignment of listing and trading operations between the Hong Kong and Mainland markets. In the longer term, Hong Kong needs to further enhance its markets' infrastructure and service offerings. If this can be achieved, Hong Kong can continue to contribute to, and share in, Mainland China's financial development.
This Luncheon Talk Series is jointly presented by the HKU Foundation and HKU's Faculty of Business and Economics. It aims to bring about a dynamic interchange of ideas and insights of influential figures from a gamut of industries and disciplines in Hong Kong.
Details of the programmes are as follows:
Date: Monday, March 12, 2007
Venue: Lower Lobby, Conrad Hong Kong, Admiralty
Time: HKU Foundation Annual General Meeting - 12:00noon
HKU Luncheon Talk - 1:00pm
