The success is a milestone in our pursuit of excellence in research as it is the first time in history that a Hong Kong researcher has been awarded such a distinguished prize. The assessment process is so rigorous that no First Class prize has been awarded in the past two years. Thus, it is an unprecedented honour not only for the University, but for the entire Hong Kong community as well. The award was presented by Premier Wen Jiabao in Beijing on 27 Feb 2007.
As a research-led university, HKU will strive for the best in training outstanding local scientists and strengthening Hong Kong's international status in science and technology research in the future.
