The Department of Civil Engineering of The University of Hong Kong (HKU-Civil) and Utility Training Institute (UTI) cordially invite you or your representative(s) to attend the press conference of launching the HKU & UTI "Utility Profession and Applications" Applied Learning Course at the above date and venue.
Funded by EMB for part of the Students' fees, this unprecedented applied learning course regarding the utility profession is, for the first time in Hong Kong, offered this year to all Form 4 secondary students as part of the new senior secondary curriculum. With lectures given by experienced utility professionals from industry and academic, the course aims at offering students a comprehensive introduction, professional knowledge and applicable techniques to utility management and surveying.
Utility management has been growing rapidly to become the fourth profession of the construction industry resulting from the rapid urbanization of Hong Kong and obsolescence of underground utilities. In response to this demand, the Civil Engineering Department of The University of Hong Kong and UTI have jointly organized this applied learning course under the guidance of HKSAR Education and Manpower Bureau.
Details of the course will be announced at the press conference. In addition to the introduction of course, Prof. K K Lee, Head of HKU Civil Engineering Department, Ir Dr. Albert Yeung, Associate Professor of HKU Civil Engineering Department and the President of the American Society of Civil Engineers Hong Kong Section and Ir Dr. King Wong, the Managing Director of UTI will introduce the career path and the trend of utility industry.
