School of Modern Languages and Cultures, Faculty of Arts, is proud to present a talk by : Mr Mario Moretti Polegato, Chairman of GEOX International Srl
06 Sep 2007
"GEOX: an idea is worth more than a factory"
In the early 1990s, during a business trip to Nevada, USA to promote his family's wine business at a trade fair, Mr. Mario Moretti Polegato decided to take a walk. This short walk, and a pair of overheated, uncomfortable feet, would eventually lead to the creation of the ‘breathable shoe', a unique patented design that allows natural foot perspiration to escape through the sole of rubber shoes, whilst maintaining their impermeability. In 1995, Mr. Polegato set up his own company under the GEOX brand name. Today GEOX has over 600 branded retail outlets and its shoes are sold in over 60 countries around the world. GEOX estimates it will produce 21 million pairs of shoes in 2007, 5 million more than in 2006. A leader in the Italian as well as international shoe industry, GEOX's success story is due to the company's constant focus on product innovation, applying creative solutions and technologies that guarantee both impermeability and breathability to rubber and leather shoes and now apparel.
School of Modern Languages and Cultures has the honour to have Mr Polegato coming to campus and share his experiences and thoughts on the importance of ideas and innovation on September 13, 2007, Thursday from 12:45pm to 1:45pm at Global Lounge, G/F of Fong Shu Chuen Amenities Centre, HKU.
