HKU opens to the Public - Information Day and Open Day, October 27 -28

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is to open its campus to the public this weekend (October 27 - 28, Saturday to Sunday) during its Information Day and Open Day (10:00 am - 6:00 pm).
Members of the public, particularly teachers and students of secondary schools and parents, are welcomed to come to HKU to learn more about the various programmes it offered, to visit the facilities and hostels of the university, and to have a taste of various spectrum of university life. There will also be a great variety of interesting talks, exhibitions, demonstrations and interactive hands-on activities of various academic disciplines throughout the two-day gala under the theme "The World University/ The University World".
Members of the media are cordially invited to cover the opening ceremony, various events highlighted below, and any other activities of both days.
Opening Ceremony
Date: October 27, 2007 (Saturday)
Time : 10:00 - 10:30 am
Venue : Sun Yat-sen Place, HKU
Officiating Guest: HKU Vice-Chancellor Professor Lap-Chee Tsui
Professor Tsui, in the presence of other senior management members, will lead the Dragon Dance - to be performed by over 30 HKU local, Mainland and international students which symbolizes "dignity" and "wisdom".
Professor Tsui and other senior management members will also attend the following programmes:-
13:00 - 14:30 Inter-Hall Cheering Competition (Venue: Sun Yat-sen Place)
15:30 Unveiling of Memorial Stone to mark the 50th Anniversary of the University Hall
(Venue: Car Park Main Entrance, University Hall, 144 Pokfulam Road)
(Note: Free Shuttle Bus departs at HKU Library Building every 15 minutes; passing by the University Hall)

"Eileen Chang: Hong Kong Legend (1939-1941)" Exhibition
Venue: HKU Main Library (Ground Floor Foyer)
Open House for HKU Libraries on October 27 & 28. No pre-registration required for visiting the exhibition on both days. Starting from October 27, new exhibits will also be added. (Due to overwhelming response, the exhibition will be extended to November 4. Pre-registration for visit of the public is required, except on the Open Day period.)
Other Activities (October 27 & 28; at various time slots)
1) Interactive Hands-on Activities (e.g. driving quay crane, aircraft and solar cart; controlling robots; treating wastewater; building timber bridge and combating computer crimes) (Venue: different floors of Haking Wong and Chow Yei Ching buildings)
2) Demonstrations and Exhibitions of latest technologies and research findings (e.g. in the fields of IT, lighting, health, environment protection, biochemistry, nano-technology, architecture) (Venue: various buildings of HKU main campus and Sassoon Road campus)
3) Guided Tour for Telescope Dome (at Chong Yuet Ming Physics Building), various Student Residential Halls, Laboratories, Teaching & Learning Facilities
