Power Distribution of the Four Political Camps - Seeing the 2007 District Council Election Results with Maps
22 Nov 2007
The Department of Geography at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is pleased to announce an analysis of results of the 2007 District Council Election from the spatial perspective. Geographic Information System (GIS) was used to explore the power re-distribution of the four political camps or affiliations - Pro-government, Pro-democrat, Moderate (Liberal Party) and Independent candidates - of the said election.
The spatial analysis examined the followings: the performance of the Pro-government versus the Pro-democratic camps in capturing votes; correlation between socio-demographic factors and election results; spatial differences in turnout rate; spatial distribution of districts of pro-government inclination; potential impact of Mainland immigrants with the right to vote on districts known to have pro-democrat supporters; districts dominated by independent candidates; as well as possible insights to the forthcoming Legislative Council HK Island Geographical Constituency By-election.
Results of the spatial analysis will be announced tomorrow at the Journalism and Media Studies Centre, HKU. Members of the media are cordially invited to cover the event, the details are:
