Meet the Author Night: Lord Jeffrey Archer on "A Prisoner of Birth"
28 Mar 2008
Best-selling British author Lord Jeffrey Archer will talk with HK readers about his new book, A Prisoner of Birth, which topped the Hardback Fiction Chart on The Sunday Times and other UK newspapers within three days of its publication.
Lord Jeffrey Howard Archer, Baron Archer of Weston-super-Mare (born May 15, 1940) is also a former politician. As one of the youngest Members of Parliament at the age of 29, he served 5 years in the House of Commons, 14 years in the House of Lords and became a life peer in 1992. His political career, however, ended after he was convicted for perjury and perverting the course of justice in 2001. Yet it was his time in prison that inspired the creation of his highly acclaimed Prison Diaries series and also formed the basis of his 14th novel A Prisoner of Birth.
The event is jointly presented by HKU Libraries Reading Club and Swindon Book Group.
