The Lung Fu Shan Environmental Education Centre Opening Ceremony
14 Apr 2008
The Lung Fu Shan Environmental Education Centre (LFSEEC) Opening Ceremony will be held on April 16, 2008 (Wednesday). Jointly operated by the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) and The University of Hong Kong (HKU), this will be the first partnership of its kind between the EPD and a tertiary institution in managing an Environmental Education Centre.
Located on the southern fringe of the HKU campus and Lung Fu Shan Country Park, the LFSEEC includes a Grade I and two Grade III historical houses, built in 1914-1919. The Centre also has an eco-pond with different kinds of freshwater fish and plants, and a courtyard with abundant vegetation that attracts a diversity of bird and butterfly species. It offers a unique opportunity for members of the public to literally get in touch with nature.
The major themes of the Centre are the appreciation of Natural & Built Environments, in particular, Climate change & Society, as well as Heritage & Ecological Significance in Lung Fu Shan and the Mid-levels. Interactive displays and educational facilities will be available at the Centre, including a 3D Climate Change Model, a Cyber corner, an activity room and a library.
