26 May 2008
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) Libraries Reading Club is pleased to present the Book Talk by Ms Christine Loh on this Thursday (May 29).
Ms Loh will talk about the book "Free Lunch: How the Wealthiest Americans Enrich Themselves at Government Expense (and Stick You with the Bill) " by David Cay Johnston. Mr Johnston, a New York Times investigative reporter, has spent his 40-year career exposing collusion between government officials and private sector entities as they enrich the rich and ignore consequences for middle-class laborers and the poor. This book is a broad examination of collusion and unfairness, ranging from subsidies for professional sports stadiums to secret payouts to multinational corporate chief executives.
Ms Loh is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Civic Exchange, an independent, non-profit public policy think tank. She has been a legislator in HK from 1992 to 2000.
