The First Asian Youth Climate Summit in Hong Kong ─ "Responses to Climate Change: Discussing Effective Strategies and Synergizing the Power of Asian Youth"

More than 180 university students from over 20 countries/ regions will participate in a 5-day summit in Hong Kong this week to work out effective strategies to address climate change issues.
To enhance Asian youths' knowledge in climate change and to empower them to take action, The Hong Kong Climate Change Coalition (HKCCC) will organize the "Asian Youth Climate Summit 2008" from July 15 to July 19, 2008 at The University of Hong Kong.
It will be the first Asian summit of its kind to be held in Hong Kong.
The Summit, under the theme of "Responses to Climate Change: Discussing Effective Strategies and Synergizing the Power of Asian Youth", encompasses the workshops, panels and social events concerning the issues of climate change.
Members of the media are cordially invited to attend various sessions of the Summit and its Opening Ceremony. All delegates will give a pledge at the ceremony that they will promise to actively respond to the climate change issues. Details of the Opening Ceremony are as follows:-

* Polar Explorer Mr. Robert Swan (The first explorer ever to have walked to the North and South poles / Founder of 2041 / Environmental Leader) will share his experience with Asian youths via video conferencing at the Opening Ceremony.
* Broadcasting of Al Gore's famous Slide Show on Climate Change (which his award-winning documentary Inconvenient Truth based on)
- immediately after the Opening, at the Introductory Panel at 10:30am
- David Noble, a young leader from Canada trained in Al Gore's "The Climate Project", will be one of the guest speakers in this Introductory Panel.

Hong Kong Climate Change Coalition (HKCCC) is the first Hong Kong-based youth climate action network and was formed by a group of students from The University of Hong Kong. They aim to address the issue of climate change through mobilizing the youths in Hong Kong, advocating change in decision-making at all levels of society and collaboration with both local and international groups.
