International Symposium on Mega-City Regions: Innovations in Governance and Planning

What are the challenges faced by mega-city regions worldwide in an era of increasing globalization and rapid population growth? Internationally renowned scholars will gather at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) campus on August 5 to share their insights and to discuss on the related solutions.
At the International Symposium on Mega-City Regions: Innovations in Governance and Planning, the distinguished speakers will also present international experiences, such as in the Western European, Australia and China, which will help HK to be better positioned in the Greater Pearl River Delta mega-city region.
Speakers at the Symposium include scholars from overseas and the Mainland China, who are internationally renowned for their work on world cities, such as Professor Sir Peter Hall of University College London, UK and Professor Saskia Sassen of Columbia University, USA. Professor Sassen has just completed a global ranking study of 75 cities' competitiveness. She will be discussing how global cities, like Hong Kong, function in mega-city regions.
High level government officials in HK and the Pearl River Delta will also be attending the Symposium to discuss issues on mega-city regional development, especially the mega-city region of the Greater Pearl River Delta.
The Symposium is organized by the Centre of Urban Studies and Urban Planning, HKU; and sponsored by the Zhong Hua Real Estate and Construction Research and Development Foundation.
