"Be One of Us – HKU Family" – HKU Information Day on October 18

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is to hold its Information Day for Undergraduate Admissions this Saturday from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm.
Members of the public, particularly teachers and students of secondary schools and parents, are welcomed to come to HKU to learn more about the various programmes it offered, to visit the facilities and hostels of the university, and to have a taste of various spectrum of university life. There will also be a great variety of interesting talks, exhibitions and demonstrations of various academic disciplines throughout the day entitled "Be One of Us - HKU Family".
Members of the media are cordially invited to cover the opening ceremony, and various activities of the day, with some highlighted below.
Opening Ceremony
Date: October 18, 2008 (Saturday)

Venue : Sun Yat-sen Place, HKU
Officiating Guest: HKU Vice-Chancellor Professor Lap-Chee Tsui
Professor Tsui will lead hundreds of students and staff members in an energetic Cheering Demonstration - a HKU hall culture and tradition - at the ceremony.

Activity Highlights
1. Inter-Hall Cheering Competition (1:00 - 3:00 pm at Sun Yat-sen Place)
2. Interactive Hands-on Activities (e.g. playing new XBOX games developed by HKU students, driving quay crane, controlling robots, treating wastewater, building timber bridge and combating computer crimes) (Venue: different floors of Haking Wong and Chow Yei Ching buildings)
3. Display of New Technologies (e.g. Electric Car, Solar Cart, Robot Ambassadors, Super Computers) (Venue: different floors of Haking Wong and Chow Yei Ching buildings)
4. Demonstrations of latest technologies and research findings (e.g. in the fields of IT, lighting, multi-media, surveillance system, health, environment protection, architecture) (Venue: various buildings of HKU main campus and Sassoon Road campus)
5. Guided Tours to:- Stephen Hui Geological Museum (at James Hsioung Lee Science Building), Laboratories, Teaching & Learning Facilities, various Student Residential Halls, etc.
