Hong Kong Geography Day – 15 November 2008

Hong Kong Geography Day is held every two years. It provides a valuable opportunity for secondary school students to learn more about geography studies at university. It also fosters cooperation and friendship among geography colleagues and students.
Hong Kong Geography Day 2008 will be co-organised by The Department of Geography of The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and The Hong Kong Geographical Association. It will be held on Saturday, 15 November, 2008 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm , in the Rayson Huang Theatre at the main campus of the University. The programme features:
- Keynote speech "Climate Change as Geography" by Mr. Lam Chiu Ying, Director of the Hong Kong Observatory
- Introduction to university geography programmes and facilities
- Talks on climate change and secondary school geographical education
- Presentations by university faculty members and students from Hong Kong, Beijing and Guangzhou on their current geography-related research
- Exhibit of geography teaching and research of university geography programmes
- Exhibit of geography-related work by various government departments, NGOs and private companies
- Exhibit of entries in the Hong Kong Geography Day Secondary School Poster Competition 2008
- Field trip to The Kadoorie Institute (HKU) and Satellite Remote Sensing Receiving Station at the Chinese University of Hong Kong
- An open day of the Department of Geography, HKU
