51 Postgraduate Students to receive Prizes at HKU Graduate School Award Presentation Ceremony

A total of 51 research postgraduate students of various disciplines will receive awards on Thursday (December 11, 2008) at the Award Presentation Ceremony of The University of Hong Kong (HKU) Graduate School. The recipients are selected based on the quality of their thesis and academic performance.
The award recipients include 6 students for the Li Ka Shing Prize (2006-2007), 10 students for the Awards for Outstanding Research Postgraduate Student (2006-2007), 32 students for the University Postgraduate Fellowships (2008-2009), and 3 students for the Mrs Li Ka Shing Postgraduate Scholarships (2008-2009).
To further encourage academic research, starting from 2005-06, the Li Ka Shing Prize has been awarded every year to 6 postgraduate degree graduates. Prizes will be awarded to 1 MPhil graduate and 2 PhD graduates of each of the two broad groups of "arts and humanities" and "science and engineering". Established in 1991 by a generous donation from Dr Li Ka Shing, the Prize was previously awarded every two years to 4 postgraduate graduates.
