Joint Hall Fund-raising Night Hiking - “Bright Tonight, Road to Light”

More than 280 university students and staff from the University of Hong Kong will participate in a Night Hiking this Sunday morning to raise fund for Sowers Action in order to sustain their annual project - Sowers Action Young Ambassador programme (SAYA) under financial tsunami.
To cheer up local NGOs while they are suffering from difficult economic climate, The Joint Hall Social Service Group (JHSS) will organize the "ROAD TO LIGHT" on March 29, 2009. . The hiking route is from Ho Tim Hall, The University of Hong Kong to the Victoria Peak. Each participant has to donate at least $100 as participation fee. Over $35,000 has been raised. 100% of donation will go to SAYA for their operational expenses.
It will be the first joint hall fund-raising activity to be held in Hall Community of the University of Hong Kong.
"Road to Light" implies we are in a dark road right now and walking to a brighter future. We walk not only for ourselves, but also for the entire community. "Bright Tonight" indicates our effort to brighten the road, the way of sustainability of the financially-crippled NGO. We pay tour effort the pave the way for them, by mentally cheering them up as well as financial donation. .
Members of the media are cordially invited to attend various sessions of the Hiking and its Opening Ceremony. A cheque handover ceremony will take place during the Opening Ceremony. Details of the Opening Ceremony are as follows:-

Joint Hall Social Service (JHSS) is the first joint-hall based social service group and was formed a group of students from various halls of residence in The University of Hong Kong. It aims to organize social service opportunities from hall members to contribute to the society as well as learn through helping others. A project, namely "South Asian in Sai Wan" was in operation since 2007, in which students from different halls joined hands to organized personal development activities for the South Asian children, facilitating their incorporation into local community..
