AFRICA DAY at HKU - Workshop promotes academic exchange for African Studies

The AFRICAN STUDIES PROGRAMME at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) is organizing a workshop to commemorate AFRICA DAY on May 25, 2009. Hon. Magda Nasr, Consul-General of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Hong Kong and Macao, Hon. Tembi Tambo, Consul-General of the Republic of South Africa in Hong Kong and Macao, Hon. Jose Bravo da Costa, Consul-General of the Republic of Angola, Hon. David Obasa, Consul-General of the Republic of Nigeria in Hong Kong and Professor Kam Louie, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, will officiate at the opening ceremony.
Africa Day falls on May 25 each year. It is a day Africans in all parts of the world come together to celebrate and affirm their unity as a people and to pledge to fight together for a better future for themselves and for the world. At HKU, three distinguished speakers from Canada, America, and the United Kingdom, will deliver speeches on the topic of "Signs of the Times: Discourse Ecologies and Self-Fashioning on Oxford Street, Accra", "Reconceptualizing African Liberation for the 21st Century: Lessons from Amilcar Cabral and "China's Education Cooperation with Africa: Meeting the Targets through FOCAC 2009".
