Faculty of Science 70th Anniversary Lecture Series - “The Relevance of a Science Degree to Life – A Self Reflection” by Dr Rita Fan Hsu Lai-tai

The Faculty of Science, The University of Hong Kong is celebrating its Platinum Jubilee in 2009. To promote science literacy and enhance among members of the public an appreciation of the importance and prevalence of science in our daily life, one of the major events is "70th Anniversary Lecture Series".
Dr Rita Fan Hsu Lai-tai, one of our outstanding alumni, is invited to be our speaker of the lecture "The Relevance of a Science Degree to Life - A Self Reflection" on June 17, 2009. As a science graduate, Dr Fan will share her success story on how her education in science has made an impact on her development and career advancement.

About Dr Rita Fan Hsu Lai-tai
Dr Rita Fan Hsu Lai-tai was a science graduate, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Physics, of The University of Hong Kong in 1967. She has devoted most of her very active life to serving Hong Kong in many different aspects, particularly education and politics.
Dr Fan was appointed as a member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong in 1983, and was a member of the Preliminary Working Committee and the Preparatory Committee for the HKSAR. She was the first woman elected to be the President of the Legislative Council and is also the longest serving, having been in the position for 11 years. Dr Fan is currently a Member of the Standing Committee of the Eleventh National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China.
