A symposium on “The Convergence of Property Rights among Mainland, Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong”
28 Jul 2009
A symposium on "The Convergence of Property Rights among Mainland, Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong" will be held from August 1 to August 3 in Hong Kong.
The three-day event is organized by the Department of Real Estate & Construction, Faculty of Architecture; and co-organized by the Asian Institute of International Financial Law, Faculty of Law, The University of Hong Kong.
Over 30 scholars and legal professionals from the Mainland, Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong will attend to explore the latest trend of development in the property rights system of the four jurisdictions. Special focus will be placed on a possible convergence of these systems looking into the concept of property rights, the legal framework governing acquisition and transaction of real property, related financial laws, and disputes resolving mechanisms.
Since the late 1990's, there has been a growing trend of economic and trade exchanges in the Greater China area. As the potential for further economic co-operation between the four jurisdictions remains great, the differences between their legal systems is believed to be a hindrance factor. The symposium therefore seeks to promote understanding and to discuss the way forward.
