Public Lecture on "US-China Relations under the Obama Administration"
03 Sep 2009
Professor G. John Ikenberry, the Albert G. Milbank Professor of Politics and International Affairs at Princeton University, will analyze the new US-China relations under the Obama Administration and assess the prospects for a stable and cooperative relationship in the coming years in a lecture hosted by the HKU Department of Politics and Public Administration
In the decades ahead, the global system will be shaped in important ways by the evolving relationship between China and the United States. The recent financial crisis has revealed the true extent of the interdependence between these two great powers. The Obama administration has great expectations for Sino-American relations. Yet China and the United States are also very different sorts of states with competing visions of the global system and distinct national interests and agendas. Professor Ikenberry will in this lecture look into how the two states can find a way to shape a new international order that is open, inclusive, and rule-based.
