The World Suicide Prevention Day 2009

The International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP), in official relations with the World Health Organization (WHO), has announced the World Suicide Prevention Day to be held every year on September 10. The day is designated as an agenda for global and regional collaborative programme that focus on the worldwide suicide problem. Numerous national and local events such as conferences, meetings, concerts and events with spiritual or cultural content have been announced and organised all over the world in order to increase the public awareness that "Suicide Prevention in Different Cultures".
HKJC Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention (CSRP), HKU is pleased to invite members of the press to attend the press conference "The World Suicide Prevention Day 2009". Our Centre Director Prof. Paul Yip will announce latest findings on suicide and suicide attempt in Hong Kong. One of the objectives is to rebuild the connectedness within the community for suicide prevention. The press conference will be organized in collaboration with the other two stakeholders in the community: Mr Chow Yick Hay, Chairman of Kwai Tsing Safe Community and Healthy City Association Limited and Dr Chow Chun-bong, consultant of Princess Margaret Hospital. Both of them will also present their views on suicide prevention in Kwai Tsing District.
