"Unity in Diversity " -- HKU Information Day
24 Oct 2009
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) opened its campus to the public in an Information Day for Undergraduate Admissions themed "Unity in Diversity" today (October 24). A record high of over 43.000 visitors were received throughout the day. Over 100 HKU students from different faculty societies, halls and sports teams showed their talents and abilities at the opening ceremony showcasing a vibrant and diversified campus life, all within a unified student community. The ceremony was launched by HKU Vice-Chancellor Professor Lap-Chee Tsui and was attended by senior management members, Faulty Deans and students of the University, and members of the public. "We strive for the best in everything we do. Individual achievements are what we treasure. But our greatest enjoyment and moments are the result of a group effort - despite the differences, we unite as a group." Professor Tsui said it was the people that made HKU unique. "We are a diverse community of learners and teachers, creators and explorers, academics and practitioners, dedicated to using our varied specialties and skills to leave our footprints in the world." He added to remind students the importance of learning outside the classroom, and the HKU belief of "working hard, playing hard". Today's opening ceremony was followed by admissions talks for prospective students. Throughout the day, various faculties and departments have organised talks and activities on recruitment and interesting academic topics. Teaching departments and halls of residence were open to give visitors a more personalized understanding of what it means to be an HKU student and life in HKU in general.
