The Centre of Buddhist Studies of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the Hong Kong Buddhist Association jointly organized an Interfaith Dialogue with the topic "The Role / Social Responsibility of World Religions in Modern Society" on October 28 (Wednesday). Over 200 distinguished guests and religious leaders from the United States and Hong Kong attended the forum to promote the understanding and exchange among different religions in the world.
Guests of honor included Ms. Florence Hui Hiu Fai, JP, Under Secretary for Home Affairs; Dr. Li Ping-ye, Secretary to the Minister of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in HKSAR; The Most Venerable Kok Kwong, President of the Hong Kong Buddhist Association; Rev. Pierre Lam Minh, Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong; Dr. Tong Yun Kai, President of the Confucian Academy; Mr. Cheung Tai Yan, Saif Mohammed, Vice-Chairman of The Chinese Muslim Cultural and Fraternal Association; Rev. Dr. Chan Kim-kwong, JP, Executive Secretary of the Hong Kong Christian Council; Mr. Tsang Chung Nam, Vice-Chairman of the Hong Kong Taoist Association; Prof. C.F. Lee, Chairman of the Management Committee of the Centre of Buddhist Studies of HKU and Ven. Dr. Jing Yin, Director of the Centre of Buddhist Studies of HKU.
There were also eleven U.S. delegation members from the ‘American-Chinese Multi-Faith Religious Exchange'(ACMFRE) including Mr. Davis Edward Froeber, Executive Director of the ACMFRE; Father Larry Janezic, Executive Director of the Franciscan Action Network; Bishop Hee-Soo Jung, Episcopal Leader of the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church and Dr. Ghulam Nabi Mir, representative of the Islamic Society of North America.
Before the dialogue, The Most Venerable Kok Kwong, President of the Hong Kong Buddhist Association, firstly appreciated the co-operation under the Colloquium of Six Religious Leaders of Hong Kong in the past three decades. Ven. Kok Kwong also wished to deepen the interfaith dialogue for tolerance, peace, harmony and sustainable development in our society. Under the guidance of Prof. C.F. Lee, the event moderator, all panelists and guests had a fruitful sharing at the event.
