HKU Faculty of Engineering awards Students and honours Teachers

The Faculty of Engineering of The University of Hong Kong (HKU) today (November 21) presented prizes and awards to over 200 outstanding students and teachers in recognition of their achievements and excellence in research and teaching.

Ir. Dr. Andrew Chan, President, the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, was the Guest of Honour and presented medals and certificates to 19 students who won faculty-based prizes, Engineering Outstanding Students Scholarship and the HKU Foundation Entrance Scholarship.

HKU Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President Professor P. K. H. Tam presented awards to 87 students who won external prizes.

During the ceremony, 22 teachers with outstanding achievements in research and teaching were honoured. These included Hunter Rouse Hydraulic Engineering Award by American Society of Civil Engineers of U.S.A. awarded to Professor Joseph H W Lee, who is also a Pro-Vice-Chancellor of HKU; State Scientific and Technological Award - 2nd Level, National Office for Science and Technology Awards of China awarded to Prof Herbert H.P. Fang; The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers Gold Medal awarded to Prof C F Lee; Fellow of American Society of Mechanical Engineers of U.S.A. awarded to Professor S.T. Tan; just to name a few.

Professor George L. Tham, Acting Dean of Engineering, thanked the teachers for the tremendous amount of work they had put into offering the best education possible to HKU students and for their contributions to the community at large. He also congratulated the engineering students on their remarkable achievements.

 "As the oldest and most established Faculty of Engineering in the territory, we pride ourselves in our bilingual and cosmopolitan education, and will continue this tradition of educating students who will serve as global leaders, address the most challenging problems worldwide, and drive tomorrow's technologies," Professor Tham said.
