Handover Ceremony of Western Service Reservoirs - an innovative waterworks project for HKU Campus Development
11 Dec 2009
An innovative and environmental friendly method to house two saltwater reservoirs in a rock cavern has been adopted by The University of Hong Kong (HKU) in relocating the Western Service Reservoirs.
Relocation work of the reservoirs was commenced in March 2007 and took two and a half years to finish. The construction method, which is the first of its kind in Hong Kong, was adopted to protect the natural environment and to optimise land use.
HKU undertook the re-provisioning of the reservoirs for the Water Supplies Department as part of the Centennial Campus Development plan. Following the relocation of the reservoirs, construction work of the Centennial Campus project is now well under way.
