Details of the concert as follows:
Concert: Hong Kong Composers Lecture Demonstration Concert
Date: 10 February 2010 (Wed)
Time: 7:30pm
Venue: Loke Yew Hall
This Lecture-Demonstration Concert is a mixture of music appreciation and education. Featuring a number of chamber works by Hong Kong composers with different instrumentation and styles, it is especially enlightening for participants with an interest in music composition. During the concert, each presented work will be preceded by a short introduction by the composer and performers who will bring out any interesting aspects during the process of composition and interpretation. Audiences are welcome to ask questions or make suggestions, thus allowing the composers, performers and audience to engage in meaningful dialogues and interactions so as to deepen one's understanding on the composers and performers, as well as enhancing one's ability in music appreciation.
The programme features some of the most promising young composers of our day, with works spanning from the ‘80s to the present day, including prolific composer and conductor Lo Hau-man's Déesse Fantastique, award-winning composer Tang Lok-yin's Fish, Chinese University assistant professor of music composition Wendy Lee's My Cagey Companions, music composition doctorate degree candidates Ng Wah-hei's Sleepless City and Chris Wu's Last Dance of the Prey, as well as music faculty member of Houston Community College Stephen Yip's Yûgen. Performers include seasoned conductor Wai Sing-fai, members of Les Six - advocates of contemporary music - Izaskun Erdocia (flute), Yiu Song-lam (oboe), Martin Choy (clarinet), Tim Leung (bassoon) and Nancy Loo (piano), as well as violinists Ayako Ichimaru and Le Hoai-nam, Elvis Chan (viola) and Laurent Perrin (cello), members of the newly established RTHK Quartet.
