Nobel Laureate Professor Gary S Becker to deliver first Centenary Distinguished Lecture

The University of Hong Kong will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2011-2012. As part of the celebrations, a series of Centenary Distinguished Lectures will be held at HKU, featuring Nobel Laureates from a wide range of disciplines.
"Causes of the Worldwide Boom in Higher Education, Especially of Women"

The inaugural lecture will be delivered by Professor Gary S Becker, who was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 1992.
In the lecture, Professor Becker will describe the causes of the boom in higher education and why it has been faster for women than men. He will also discuss why this boom in knowledge is also important for developing countries like China. The lecture will be followed by a panel discussion.
Lunch with a Nobel Laureate
On September 22, a group of 20 senior secondary school students and university undergraduates will meet Professor Becker for "Lunch with a Nobel Laureate".
As an extension of the Centenary Distinguished Lectures, the "Lunch with a Nobel Laureate" aims to foster Knowledge Exchange between university and secondary schools, and help students broaden their horizons by meeting face-to-face with some of the most brilliant minds in the world today.
