Renowned filmmaker Ann Hui, actress Sandra Ng, and scriptwriter Elsa Yang Yee-shan attended a public forum discussing their latest film "All About Love" today (September 22) at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). The forum was moderated by Dr. Esther M.K. Cheung of the Department of Comparative Literature.
Ms Hui said she would like to use a rather light tone to depict serious issues for motherhood, sexuality and discriminations in the society, using the film as a medium to pose questions for audience to contemplate.
"All About Love" is a story about ex-lovers Macy (Sandra Ng) and Anita (Vivian Chow) who are coincidentally brought back together by unexpected pregnancies from their respective one-night-stand. Macy, a bi-sexual lawyer, was sexually involved with a married man, whereas Anita got knocked up by a 19-year-old university student. A romantic comedy revolving around four people and two babies, the film reflects upon problems concerning gender, sexuality, and patriarchy in contemporary Hong Kong society.
At the forum, Professor Kam Louie, HKU Dean of Arts shared the joy of the Moon Festival with the three artists presenting to them as gift the "HKU 100 Mooncakes". He also extended his gratitude to Dr Tam Wah Ching, donor of the University Artists Scheme (UAS) for his generous support to the scheme and his contributions to Faculty of Arts throughout the years.
The University Artists Scheme is hosted by Faculty of Arts, HKU and supported by Wah Ching Fund.
About the University Artists Scheme (UAS)
The UAS, with its focus on artists of international calibre, is the first of its kind at the University of Hong Kong. We bring world-renowned artists to the campus to enrich the lives of our students. The artists will pursue projects and activities in the form of lectures, workshops, screenings, exhibitions, and performances. They will have an opportunity to work closely with colleagues, practitioners, and students in the University and in the general community.
