"Education Research Degrees Alumni Reunion Forum" by HKU Faculty of EducationIn celebration of the University's Centenary, the HKU Faculty of Education will organize the "Education Research Degrees Alumni Reunion". The Alumni Forum, which is the first ever in the faculty, will be one of the highlights of the Reunion event. Four distinguished PhD graduates are invited to share in the Forum. They are:

HKU Faculty of Engineering to Award Students and Honour Teachers
The University of Hong Kong's Faculty of Engineering will present prizes and awards to outstanding students and teachers in recognition of their achievements and excellence in research and teaching. This year's Dean's Honours List will be presented by Professor George L Tham, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, HKU. Ir Professor Reuben Chu, President, The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, will be the Guest of Honour. HKU Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost, Professor Roland T Chin, will honour teachers for their outstanding achievements.

Launching of gambling education website
The Social Sciences Research Centre will launch a gambling education website for the youths, teachers and parents, and professionals in the field. You are cordially invited to a briefing on details of the website and a presentation on "Awareness Education Project for children (9-11) and adolescents (12-18) for the Prevention of Problem Gambling".

Book talk: "Mao's Great Famine"
While Communist Party archives are still very closely guarded, over the past four or five years, they have gradually opened up to the extent that serious research has become possible on the famine during the Great Leap Forward from 1958 to 1962. In a fresh look at the incident, Professor Frank Dikötter, Chair Professor of the Humanities, HKU estimates up to 45 million people may have died, which is much higher than previously estimated. You are cordially invited to a talk by Professor Dikötter on his new book.

HKU Libraries to hold talk on "Hong Kong Designers Inside-Out!"
Theme book: Brody: The Graphic Language of Neville Brody
The talk is part of the General Education Theme Week entitled "Made by Hong Kong: Beyond Designer Labels". Renowned designers, artists and art directors will unveil the latest design trends and share the wonders of their internationally acclaimed designs. The Graphic Language of Neville Brody is a classic book on graphic and font design for those who are interested in the culture and fashion in the 80's & 90's.
