Age-friendly Cities with Cooperation & Participation - The Asian Pacific Perspective Regional Conference
Age-friendly Cities with Cooperation & Participation - The Asian Pacific Perspective Regional Conference will be hosted by the Faculty of Social Sciences, The University of Hong Kong on 19 and 20 November (Friday & Saturday). The conference aims at providing a platform for the participants from around the world to share experiences of policy, research, and practices on how age-friendly city framework as promoted by World Health Organization (WHO) has been achieved in the Asia Pacific region.

HKU Faculty of Dentistry Open Day
To enhance the public awareness to the Faculty's education training, research, patient care and social commitment, The Faculty of Dentistry of HKU will hold a joint open day with Prince Philip Dental Hospital on 21 November 2010 (Sunday). The Open Day will showcase the activities, services, programmes, and facilities of the Faculty. Guided tours will be held and the public will be able to visit the Faculty's problem based learning areas, simulation laboratory, Centre for Advanced Dental Care, library, postgraduate habitats as well as dental and research laboratories.

The Second HKU Centenary Distinguished Lecture
"HIV/ AIDS - a Scientific and Human Adventure in Response to an Emerging Epidemic"
by Professor Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, Nobel Laureate 2008
Professor Françoise Barré-Sinoussi was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2008. She was the first scientist to identify the HIV retrovirus which enabled the worldwide study of treatment and preventive measures to AIDS after such discovery. In the lecture, Professor Françoise Barré-Sinoussi will describe how the emergence of HIV shocked the modern Medicine in the middle of 20th century. She will explain how the scientific, clinical and patient communities, supported by local authorities and international organizations are mobilized to fight against AIDS.

As an extension of the Centenary Distinguished Lectures, the "Lunch with a Nobel Laureate" aims to foster Knowledge Exchange between university and secondary schools, and help students broaden their horizons by meeting face-to-face with some of the most brilliant minds in the world today.

Education Seminar Series 2010: "Talking Liberal Studies with Parents"
The HKU Faculty of Education has organized a series of seminars examining the various subjects taught in schools nowadays, including languages, liberal studies, mathematics and other subjects. The seminars are intended for parents and the focus will be on the role parents are playing in the rapidly changing teaching and learning environment. The third seminar in the series will look into the challenges and opportunities in the teaching and learning of liberal studies.
