Book Launch: On the Learning of Chinese The Path of Mastery of Chinese
08 Mar 2011
Many people find Chinese a hard language to learn. Professor S.K. Tse, Dr W.W. Ki, Dr W.M. Cheung and Dr K.Y. Loh from the Faculty of Education, HKU will illuminate the path of mastery of Chinese based on their research findings. By putting theories into practice in local schools, the teaching and learning of Chinese is remarkably effective. The pedagogy is recognized by the education authorities of Singapore, Taiwan and California, USA and adopted in their curriculum design of Chinese learning.
The research team, led by Professor Tse, conducted a number of large-scale and robustly-designed studies to investigate the relationship between the learning and teaching of Chinese. With the use of a variety of learning theories and in particular, the Theory of Variation by a Swedish Scholar, Professor Ference Marton, they provide a strong theoretical and practical foundation for the pedagogy of Chinese learning and teaching.
The book On the Learning of Chinese presenting in a systematic way the popular study in the teaching and learning of Chinese, is considered a milestone for further achievement.
