HKU Pearl for the World project - Third Stage Exhibition and Public Talk "The Greater West Kowloon and the 100-year sustainable development plan for HKSAR"
15 Mar 2011
An exhibition to showcase the third stage of the Pearl for the World project which envisages Hong Kong's sustainable development in the 21st century and a public talk to explain the proposals will be held tomorrow (March 16) at the University of Hong Kong (HKU).
The Pearl for the World project brings forward a generic sustainable development framework for the entire HKSAR for the coming 50 years and beyond. The project particularly addresses Hong Kong's ever increasing population which is predicted to reach 9 million by 2040 as advised by the government.
Further to its first stage exhibition in October 2009 and the second stage exhibition in January 2010, the third stage will be based on the theme "The Greater West Kowloon and a 100-year sustainable development plan for HKSAR"
The exhibition will be held at SunYat-sen Place in front of the Main Library at HKU. Visitors are invited to a miniature tour on maps outlining the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD), and the Central HK Harbour Front Region, connected by a proposed shuttle Automated People Mover (APM) train tunnel to be constructed under the harbour. Exhibits will also include models on the proposed underground multi-functional HUBS development of WKCD and the Central HK Harbour Front Region, and a shuttle APM train tunnel proposed in line with the shuttle APM train used inside the HK International Airport. A model of the HKSAR city centre and related graphics and images, developed in line with the theme, will also be exhibited.
Professor K P Cheung, Associate Professor of the Department of Architecture and principal investigator of the project, will give a briefing on the blueprint, to be followed by a tour of the exhibits.
