Academy Award-winning Director Ruby Yang to screen film and meet with an audience at HKU
24 Mar 2011
Academy Award-winning director Ruby Yang will screen her 2011 Academy Award-nominated short documentary, The Warriors of Qiugang at The University of Hong Kong on Wednesday, 30 March, 2011. She will meet and take questions from the audience after the screening.
Yang's film tells the story of villagers in central China, who challenge a chemical company that is poisoning their air, water and land. As black waters disgorged from the plants and flooded the fields of Qiugang, fish died, crops failed, and villagers grew alarmed by the large numbers of their own succumbing to cancer. For five years they fight to transform their environment and as they do, they find themselves transformed as well.
