Send-off Ceremony for Service 100 Summer Programmes

Over 100 HKU student volunteers will be pledging to serve the community and the world at a Send-off Ceremony for Service 100 Summer Programmes next Monday (May 23, 2011).
Service is a core value of the University of Hong Kong. As one of the main themes of HKU centennial celebrations, HKU "Service 100" has been launched with an aim to reaffirm the University's commitment to build a better world.
This summer, over 300 students will organise and participate in a wide range of service activities to eradicate poverty, combat HIV/AIDS, promote gender equality, ensure environmental sustainability, advocate social harmony and world peace, locally as well as across the globe. They will be setting off to over 20 destinations locally and around the world, including Ghana in Africa, Chile in Latin America, Thailand, Indonesia and Sri Lanka in Asia to build emergency houses, construct bridge and latrines, teach transferable employment skills, and install flooding protection devices, etc. (Please visit http://www.cpao.hku.hk/media/110523cedars.pdf)
