HKU Taster Days–Bringing together Asia’s best students to Hong Kong
09 Jun 2011
For the second year running, HKU Taster Days have brought together a carefully selected group of top ranking students from some of the best secondary schools around Asia to not only taste the life of a student at Asia's leading international university but also experience cosmopolitan Hong Kong.
This year, 70 students from 10 countries around Asia have participated in a four-day programme (June 7 to 10) designed to give participants, in particular those who are interested in Engineering and Arts studies, the exposure to diversity in knowledge to mold all-rounded individuals that are geared for the future. In recent years, the University of Hong Kong (HKU) has seen a significant rise of interest amongst international students towards the Engineering and Arts discipline. The Faculty of Engineering, ranked 19th in the world by the Times Higher Education, is the top ranking Engineering faculty in Hong Kong, while, the Faculty of Arts, one of the most internationalized faculty in HKU, boasts more than 50% of international teaching staff.
These participants (some the first time out of their home country) have experienced life on campus, met new friends from all over Asia and engaged in new ways of living and learning. They have had the opportunity to bond with alumni from their respective schools who are pursuing their studies at HKU. These alumni have volunteered their time to facilitate the programme as they would like their juniors to experience HKU as they did.
