HKU initiated Academy for the Talented for secondary five students

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) launches the Academy for the Talented, a new programme targeted at the academically talented Secondary Five students. The programme aims to provide an opportunity to the students to become involved with HKU campus life before graduating from secondary school. To signify the launch of the Academy and to inaugurate the first cohort of members, an Inauguration Ceremony will be held tomorrow (June 28).
For the first cohort, 121 students from 27 secondary schools are admitted to the Academy. For one year, they are eligible to enrol in a number of academic and enrichment courses, including lectures, seminars, service learning, experiential learning opportunities covering the disciplines of arts, business and economics, medicine, dentistry and science. Besides, all Academy members are eligible to enrol in HKU credit-bearing courses in the fields of business, accounting and mathematics. Other non-traditional means of learning for the members include rigorous training in the specialisation of medicine, orthopaedics and dentistry. Some members will become a mentee under the mentorship programme by the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology for one full year.
Apart from academic courses, various programmes are designed to help members to grow holistically, including leadership training programme, service trip, orientation and hall activities and residential programmes.
Members of the media are cordially invited to attend the Ceremony. The details are as follows:

Venue: Main Building (Outside room MB G3, The University of Hong Kong Staff Association), HKU (In case of adverse weather, the ceremony will be moved to Rayson Huang Theatre, HKU)
