HKU admits over half of the top students in JUPAS

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has admitted a total of 198, amounting to 55% of the top students scoring at least 3As in the Advanced Level Examination through the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS) for 2011/12.
Among the students admitted are three 6As scorers (out of a total of four, or 75%), and 11 scorers of 5As (out of 17, or 65%), 41 of 4As (out of 61, or 67%) and 143 of 3As (out of 281, or 51%).
A total of 1787 students have been admitted through JUPAS this year. The University continues to outperform other higher educational institutions in terms of the number of students admitted from Band A and their average grades. The average grade of the students is B, and C for English, 99.33% of the students have been admitted from Band A.
The five programmes having the best admission results are in descending order Medicine, Actuarial Science, Business Administration (International Business and Global Management), Pharmacy and Business Administration (Law). Students in these programmes scored an average grade of A. The three 6As scorers have been admitted to Business Administration (Law), Business Administration (International Business and Global Management) and Law respectively.
Moreover, a number of sports scholars have been recruited through non-JUPAS. They include table tennis athlete Li Kwun Ngai (Economics and Finance), football athlete Chan Siu Kwan and rugby athlete NATASHA, Shangwe Olson Thorne (Exercise and Health), and field athlete Chan Yuen Ting (Arts).
