HKU to launch free mobile app "HK Tram Trail - Traces of Hong Kong's Urban Development"
Tram passengers can now have self-guided tours by making use of a free mobile app "Hong Kong Tram Trail - Traces of Hong Kong's Urban Development" launched by the University of Hong Kong (HKU). The app will be available for free download on September 25, 2011 (Sunday). For details, please refer to the announcement at http://100.hku.hk/.
The "Traces of Hong Kong's Urban Development" app designer and developer Professor Anthony Yeh, HKU Department of Urban Planning and Design and Centre of Urban Studies and Urban Planning; and the app consultant Dr Joseph Ting, alumnus and the former Chief Curator of the Hong Kong Museum of History, will brief the media on this new app. Details are as follow:

Public lecture "Postgraduate Education Trends in the U.S. and Beyond"
Dr. Debra W. Stewart, President of the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS), the leading organization dedicated to the improvement and advancement of graduate education in the U.S. will and around the world, give a lecture on September 26, 2011 (Monday) at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). The Shaw Prize Lecture on Life Science & Medicine by
Professor J Hoffmann, Professor R Medzhitov and Professor B Beutler
Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine is privileged to host The Shaw Prize Lecture in Life Science and Medicine this year. The Shaw Prize laureates, Professors Jules Hoffmann, Ruslan Medzhitov and Bruce Beutler, are invited to give us a lecture on their discovery of the molecular mechanism of innate immunity, the first line of defense against pathogens, on September 29, 2011 (Thursday).
The Shaw Prize, established under the auspices of Sir Run Run Shaw in November 2002, is an international award to honour individuals who have achieved distinguished and significant advances in their respective fields. The Prize itself is dedicated to furthering societal progress, enhancing quality of life, and enriching humanity's spiritual civilization.

HKU to present Honorary University Fellowships to 10 distinguished individuals
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) will hold a ceremony to present the Honorary University Fellowships to ten distinguished individuals, in recognition of their contributions to the University as well as the whole community.
The ceremony will take place at 5:30pm on Thursday, September 29, 2011 in the Rayson Huang Theatre at the main campus of the University.
Dr the Hon David K P Li, the Pro-Chancellor of the University will officiate at the ceremony.

University Artists Scheme:Public Forum on WU XIA
Filmmaker Peter Ho Sun Chan will dialogue with cultural columnist Dr Ma Ka Fai about his latest film WU XIA. The Forum will be moderated by Dr Esther M.K. Cheung from the Department of Comparative Literature, HKU. Topics for discussion include trends and developments in Hong Kong-China co-productions, gender relations, and the impact the film has had on the martial arts genre. There will be a screening of WU XIA before the Public Forum.
