The University presented the Honorary University Fellowships to ten distinguished individuals, in recognition of their contributions to the University and the community. They are:

2. Mr Paul Kwok Wing CHEUNG
3. Mr Stanley Yu Lun CHU
4. Dr Laurence Lee Tsun HOU
5. Ir Chai Kwong MAK
6. Mr Patrick Sun Cheong POON
7. Dr David Wai Kin SIN

At the ceremony, HKU Vice-Chancellor Professor Lap-Chee Tsui extended his gratitude on behalf of the University community to the fellows for their contributions to the University and society.
Professsor Tsui said: "This evening we will be honouring ten individuals who have shown, in thought, and word, and deed, not only how greatly they believe in the University, but also how deeply they appreciate the value of education, and how important the welfare of society is to them."
He added that this year's Ceremony is particularly special, because it takes place as the University is celebrating its Centenary.
"As we take stock of the history of the University, one point that frequently comes up is how impressive it is that a University with fairly modest beginnings could have grown to achieve the worldwide recognition it has today.
And what struck me most are the feelings of loyalty, passion and commitment the University seems to inspire." Professor Tsui praised the ten honorary fellows as "true examples of commitment, determination, generosity and leadership, because they themselves lead by examples ".
The Honorary University Fellowships was established in 1995 to reaffirm the University's link between town and gown.
