HKU Information Day for Undergraduate Admissions 2011
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) will hold its Information Day for Undergraduate Admissions 2011 on October 29 & 30 (Saturday & Sunday), from 10am to 6pm.
To mark the Centenary of HKU, the Information Day will kick-off with an opening ceremony that will acknowledge the naming of "HKU Star", officiated by Vice-Chancellor Professor Lap-Chee Tsui, together with Dr. Fong Yun Wah and the representative of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Purple Mountain Observatory. Cast of "A Hundred Years of Home Stories", a theatre performance created by a group of HKU current students and alumni to celebrate the HKU Centenary, will lead the crowd to join hands in a joyful painting experience.
The two-day event aims to showcase the University programmes, activities and facilities to the public, particularly to the secondary schools students, teachers and parents. Teaching departments and halls of residence are open to the public for a better understanding of the campus life at HKU.

As no private vehicle will be allowed to drive in/out or park inside HKU campus during 08:00 - 19:00 on the two event days. All visitors are encouraged to use public transportation to reach HKU.

A Hundred Years of Home Stories
The story of each one of us began even before we were born. A group of HKU's alumni and current students with diverse background and life experience have come together to re-examine and re-discover themselves through a journey back into history. As storytellers, together with theatre languages: text, video, light, sound and space, they will narrate a century of stories about themselves, HKU and Hong Kong.

Online Freedoms and the Information and Communications Technology Sector: A Human Rights Advocacy Perspective
An informal discussion on the rights to online freedom of expression, access to information, and privacy in a China context, and the roles different stakeholders can play to strengthen human rights awareness and accountability among companies operating in the ICT sector, which often find themselves at the center of human rights controversies. Also, an introduction to the work of Human Rights in China (HRIC), an international NGO with a mission to promote international human rights and advance the institutional protection of those rights inside China, with emphasis on HRIC's work to engage ICT businesses and other stakeholders in support of online freedoms. Joey H. Lee is the Senior Hong Kong Program Manager at the Hong Kong office of Human Rights in China (HRIC).

HKU will hold the Opening Ceremony of the Equal Opportunities Festival 2011
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) will hold the Opening Ceremony of the Equal Opportunities Festival 2011 on November 4 (Friday).
Mr. Lam Woon-kwong, Chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Commission, and HKU Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost Professor Roland T. Chin, will officiate at the ceremony.
Students from different countries including Indonesia, Africa, China and the USA will share their experience on how they overcome their difficulties. The students from Indonesia and Africa will provide information on their culture and needs. Allowing people to know more about their culture and needs will facilitate these minority students to overcome their difficulties. The student from China uses a crutch to walk and the student from the USA has Dyslexia. These two students will let us know how they solve their problems.
At the ceremony, certificates will be presented to participants of "the wheelchair challenge". These participants have been asked to travel on a wheelchair from one place to another on HKU campus and they will share their experience. Booths will be set up to show the various aspects of cultural diversity, racial harmony and disability awareness.
